Trapani

In ancient times it was called “Drepanon (Greek word that means “sickle”) for its shape. Trapani is also known as the city of salt and sailing and it is a perfect place for a holiday combining art, sea, nature and food and wine.
It offers the opportunity of admiring the salt pans, located along the road to Marsala, with  their windmills and the renowned “Museo del Sale (Salt Museum)”: during certain periods of the year it is possible to attend the harvesting of the salt, which is traditionally harvested by hand. Here visitors can admire breathtaking sunsets. It is also important the sailing activity: Trapani often hosts prestigious national and international regattas. Surrounded by deep blue waters, Trapani stands below the mountain of Erice and its medieval hamlet. A site of great archaeological interest is Mothia. Among the numerous events which animate the city, the Processione dei Misteri (Procession of the Mysteries) is undoubtedly the most famous. The tradition has been renewing for over 400 years: on Good Friday the city becomes the scene of a very evocative and moving religious event. In the surroundings there are many destinations for enjoying transparent waters: the most famous is San Vito lo Capo, known for its beach of white sand and crystal-clear waters.
